It was one of the rare encounters when Bollywood stardom brushed shoulders with an international politico. This time it was none other than Kajol, who bumped into Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, on a Hyderabad to Mumbai flight while he was on a six-day trip to India.

But if you think they swapped high flier notes in business class, think again. Mr Johnson couldn't get a business class seat because they had reportedly been booked up by Kajol and her entourage, leaving Mr Johnson to fly economy.

But the Mayor of London took it in his stride and happily posed for a picture with Kajol as she jumped on the VIP bus on the tarmac. He later tweeted the picture, saying, "Just landed in Mumbai, home of Bollywood. Delighted to meet film mega star Kajol."

Boris Johnson is, of course, used to being caught in sticky situations. At the opening ceremony of the London Olympics earlier this year, he was left dangling above the stadium after his aerial entry on a zipwire came to halt mid-zip. He was eventually rescued and later jokingly referred to himself as the "Yuri Gagarin of the zipwire."

There's a huge Indian community who have made the UAE their second home - do you get the attraction?

I do, actually, and there is such a recall for Bollywood here, too. Hindi films, for any Indian, are in their bloodstream. It's part of their genetic make-up to enjoy these movies. You can't escape it, really.

Can you explain why some Hindi actors find the term "Bollywood" disrespectful?

It's probably because it's a take-off from "Hollywood". Our film industry is the biggest in the world today, we certainly make the most movies and we probably have a lot more of a history to back it up. So maybe that's why some people would not look at it in the right light. We're not a take-off; we're an original entity in ourselves.

Coming from an acting and directing background, do you have the same ambitions for your children?

I don't have ambitions for them, I just hope they grow up happy in their lives and do whatever they love. But, yes, as far as going into the film industry is concerned, whatever they want to be, if they're interested - definitely. If not, great for them also.

Have they shown any interest so far or have you spotted any family traits?

Well, I see a lot of me in them. Mind you, I didn't even want to be an actress when I was 8 or 9 years old - I gradually grew into it - so maybe that will happen for them as well.

The Hindi film industry today is probably a very different place to the one you entered 20 years ago. Is it harder for Hindi actresses to make it these days?

In fact, I think it's much easier today. It was really a small, close-knit community back then. The feeling today is more corporate and it has a lot more going for it. It's a fantastic place to be in because financially it is much easier to make different films. People are more willing to take chances and this business is all about making money.

Have you got any filming projects on the horizon?

I don't have anything currently; I'm still looking for that A1 perfect script, so I'm waiting.

Is the script what you look for above all else in a project - over the director, genre, location, cast, etc?

Yes, it's always the script. And I have been really picky as far as my movies are concerned. Besides, after you have two kids you really want the movie you're working on, for 150 days away from your family, to be worth it. I've gotten pickier and pickier.

Is there one dream role you'd love to be offered?

I don't really have one. I know that sounds weird to say, but my dream script would be something that just fits me. The minute I hear it, I'll know it. I didn't have a dream man either but I found him.

Are we talking just Bollywood or Hollywood when it comes to your long-term ambitions?

As far as Hollywood is concerned, there are so many parameters that it's difficult to even have a presence over there.

I never leave home without… my sense of humour.
My favourite heels are… a fabulous pair of nude peep toes, I love them and they go with everything.
My last indulgent buy was… a beautiful pair of glasses from a quaint shop in London, they cost a bomb!
I've made quite a few fashion faux-pas… half of my life really! But I'd never cringe about them and know my sense of humour helped me carry them off!
I would sum up my life philosophy as… living in the now and definitely giving everything 100 per cent.

People were quite shocked when Ajay Devgn sent a notice to Yash Raj Films after the death of Yash Chopra, complaining that the studio was involved in arm twisting smaller films out of theatres. There was a lot of speculation as Ajay’s better half Kajol, who had more than a decade-long relationship with the Chopras, which was visibly ruined.

Kajol has now come out with the real story. She says that it was the Chopras who drew blood first by sending Ajay a bill for Rs 20 lakhs for using a sliver of a line from the song Kajra re (Bunty Aur Babli), for a scene in Bol Bachchan. And when poor Kajol tried to intervene and mediate, it ended up ruining her relationship with the Chopras. In a recent interview, Kajol came clean and admitted, “Yes, it affected my relationship. But it was a situation which had come out of ordinary. It was not a normal situation… It doesn’t occur normally. It doesn’t happen everyday… Hopefully, it will not happen in the future again.”

Well, we hope Kajol can mend that bridge soon, since it would be great to see her in a YRF film soon. But now with husband Ajay turning a big shot producer too, maybe he could produce a film with wifey in the lead. Young couples are eager to capture their love story away from the fuss of a wedding setting, finds Vishnupriya Bhandaram

There has been much written about fancy wedding photographs — of how it’s no longer a ‘thousand moons around the bride’ photo-shopped photography. What’s new is a pre-wedding photo shoot; to-be-brides have welcomed this trend with open arms and why not?

It’s another day to gather and freeze memories — genuine or otherwise.

“We decided to take pictures because usually after a wedding it’s just pictures of the mehendi-clad hands and suited-up grooms to adorn the walls,” says Harsha Raghava, who got married last month and got a pre-wedding photo shoot done.

“We wanted something edgy, urban and something that truly represented us in our true element.”

Couples want to flaunt the ‘to-be-us’. Just log on to Facebook and you’ll see that most of your engaged friends probably now have pictures of themselves walking along a quiet road or sitting by the river with their fiancé, images right out of a romantic film. Well, that’s the idea, really.

Hyderabad-based photographer Kishor Krishnamoorthi says the trend is fairly new in India and in the city; the bride from his first photo shoot had approached Kishor to do a ‘couple shoot’.

“Clients see their friends’ pictures and ask me and sometimes if they have a great love story, I suggest a couple photo shoot as well,” says Kishor. But now some clients even expect pre-wedding photo shoots in the package. A pre-wedding photo shoot can reflect your love story and it can really take the wedding pressure off as you enjoy a day away with your fiancé/fiancée. Invariably, the shoot is scheduled a week before the wedding and photographers suggest themes and concepts.

“I treat it like a fashion shoot and I usually get the hair and make-up in place. Also, I like to weave in a story,” says Kishor.

Pre-wedding photos can be flaunted easily and used to up your wedding décor. For his own wedding, Amrit Vatsa, co-founder of Shaadigraphers, ‘bollywoodised’ pictures of himself and his bride. He made movie posters of popular movies like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring his bride-to-be and himself and used them to decorate the wedding venue.

You could also add these pictures to your scrapbook, wedding website and invitation cards for a personalised theme. Amrit says, “I think couples go for pre-wedding shoots because the final pictures make them look like superstars — like Shahrukh and Kajol — and who wouldn’t want that?” He also points out that social media plays a big role in sparking such trends.

“With Facebook having become such an addictive online hangout with most youths and when half of the weddings have a Facebook invite, such pictures can make you famous,” says Amrit.

Pre-wedding photo shoots are very different from the formal poses in studios. And away from the hullabaloo of a wedding, you can capture intimate moments.

People look natural and fresh and are able to indulge in effortless romance, which perhaps is not possible just before or after a hundred rituals are done.

The rumour of the actor doing Rohit Shetty’s film has resurfaced

Last October, there were rumours of Kajol doing a guest appearance in Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express. The actor denied it then, but the rumours have resurfaced now. “I have no idea as yet. Even I have just heard about it. It is still a rumour. It is in the rumour stage currently,” Kajol had said to Digital Spy last year.

But since the rumour is not dying, we assume that there is no smoke without fire, and Kajol is, indeed, doing a role in Chennai Express. It should be a treat to fans, as SRK-Kajol make one of the most loved onscreen pairs in Bollywood. They were last seen starring opposite each other in My Name Is Khan.

Kajol made her acting debut when she was still in school and after that academics took a back seat. The actress regrets not taking her studies seriously and says she realised its importance late in life.

"I never studied whole heartedly. And after completing my school education, when I started working, I realised the importance of education. I realised what I should have done. According to me, it was my mistake," said the actress who carved a niche for herself with hits like "Baazigar", "Dushman", and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" after making a tepid start with "Bekhudi" in 1992.

She was speaking at an event and urged the students to take their education seriously.

"I would like to tell my kids and other children to not repeat the mistake which I made in my childhood. So go ahead and study as much as you can. Knowledge is the only thing that nobody can take away from you," said the 38-year-old, who is married to actor Ajay Devgn. They have two children - daughter Nysa and son Yug.

Actress Kajol, who with husband Ajay Devgn has been actively involved in social work, says getting associated with causes is part of social responsibility and it is their way to return something to the society.

The 38-year-old, along with her actor husband, is supporting a campaign for children and has donated Rs.10 lakh.

"I believe it is part of our social responsibility. It is different when you are 16 years old and it is different when you are at our age. Ajay and I think this as our social responsibility and specially after having kids. We feel the need to give back and in a different way, not in regular cinematic way," Kajol told IANS.

Talking about the couple's association with various social organisations, Kajol said: "If we feel passionately about something, we always get through. Passion is something which connects everyone. I hope other people too come forward and support various causes."

"I don't think we can stand up for everything, but what we do stand up for, are we feel passionate about like save the girl child, education, and literacy. We believe, these are the things that will make a difference and make our country grow," she said.

An endeavour to get better facilities in schools in rural and semi-urban towns, the campaign has impacted as many as 100 schools by providing them with improved amenities like access to clean water, proper sanitation, and sports facilities among others.

Kajol, a mother two, feels education is a "basic necessity" for a child.

"There is so much going on in the world today. Education can help and protect your child in numerable ways," said the actress known for playing a mom in films like "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" and "My Name Is Khan".

Last seen in 2010 film "We Are Family", she feels that celebs' support to any cause certainly makes a difference.

"Their association brings more focus on the whole issues. It brings a different kind of publicity and also spreads awareness. A normal person would pay more attention if it comes from someone they know. Celebrities or known faces bring a lot to the table," she said.

After recent reports of Kajol losing 16 kilos in a couple of months, guess who's inspired by the fiesty actress to shed excess weight? Her younger sister Tanisha Mukerji, who is believed to have hired the services of Kajol's trainer to help her get slimmer and in shape. Reason being that she needs to look trimmer for her Marathi film debut, tentatively titled 'Adhaantari' (meaning 'In the interim').

According to our source, Tanisha had put on quite some kilos during her days as producer of Son Of Sardaar. "The film was extensively shot in Patiala. So during her stay there, Tanisha indulged a bit on the calorie rich food, as a result of which she gained some weight," revealed our informer, adding that seeing Kajol lose considerable weight, Tanisha decided to follow her elder sister's footsteps.

Incidentally, the Marathi movie being produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Yardi, came at an apt time for the actress. As our source says, "For the film, Tanisha requires to lose some weight. Since the shoot is scheduled to start in April in London, where the story is based, she has started training to get into shape by then."

Interestingly, it's an all women crew as the director is Gauri Sarvate and the music is being composed by Apeksha Dandekar. It is also learnt that after she heard the narration, she had discussed it with her mother, Tanuja. The veteran actress too agreed that it was a good subject for Tanisha to be a part of and was happy that the daughter is acting in a Marathi film.
